Understand the Vehicle — Not Just the Listing
Buying a vehicle is easy to research badly.
Reliability information, recalls, known issues, maintenance requirements, repair costs, owner experiences, and technical information are scattered across dozens of sources—and not all of those sources deserve equal weight.
A Bighorn Research Ownership Profile brings that information together into one evidence-based report designed to help you understand what owning a particular vehicle may actually look like.
We don’t tell you what to buy. We help you understand what you’re buying.

What You’ll Learn
Every Ownership Profile is researched for the specific vehicle, generation, powertrain, configuration, mileage, and available vehicle-level information.
Depending on the vehicle, your profile may include:
- Ownership Summary — the most important strengths, tradeoffs, concerns, and ownership considerations up front.
- Reliability & Known Issues — documented problems, affected configurations, evidence strength, prevalence when it can be established, and potential repair exposure.
- Maintenance & Ownership Planning — scheduled maintenance, upcoming service considerations, estimated shop costs, and DIY practicality.
- Safety & Recalls — relevant crash-test information, safety equipment, recalls, and VIN-specific recall verification when a VIN is provided.
- Owner Experience — recurring real-world ownership themes, kept separate from reliability evidence.
- Ownership Timeline — what may deserve attention as mileage and age increase.
- Questions to Ask — vehicle-specific questions that can help uncover missing information before purchase.
- Comparable Alternatives — similar vehicles that may be worth understanding alongside the vehicle being researched.
- Research Gaps — what the available evidence cannot reliably tell us.
Not every vehicle has the same evidence available. When reliable information doesn’t exist, we don’t fill the gap with a guess.

Research Built Around Evidence
Bighorn doesn’t treat every forum post, owner complaint, technical bulletin, recall, or manufacturer statement as equally reliable.
We evaluate the source, applicability, corroboration, and limitations of the evidence before deciding what belongs in an Ownership Profile.
That distinction matters. A documented problem is not automatically a common problem, and an issue affecting one model year or powertrain should not automatically be applied to another.
Have a Vehicle You’d Like Us to Research?
Bighorn Research is currently accepting vehicles for our External Beta.
You can submit a vehicle you’re considering buying, recently purchased, or currently own. If selected, we’ll prepare an Ownership Profile at no cost. In return, we ask for brief feedback about the report.
