Terms of Use

Effective Date: August 25, 2026

Last Updated: August 25, 2026

Welcome to Bighorn Research. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Bighorn Research website, Ownership Profiles, research materials, and related services.

By accessing or using the Bighorn Research website or services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the website or services.

1. About Bighorn Research

Bighorn Research provides informational research designed to help users better understand vehicle ownership considerations.

Our research may organize and evaluate information from manufacturers, government agencies, technical publications, vehicle records, publicly available information, user-submitted information, and other sources. We seek to distinguish between stronger and weaker evidence, identify relevant information gaps, and provide useful context rather than false certainty.

Bighorn Research provides information and research. We do not make purchasing decisions on behalf of users.

2. Informational Purpose Only

All Bighorn Research content, including Ownership Profiles, articles, website content, research summaries, ratings, classifications, comparisons, observations, and other materials, is provided for general informational and research purposes.

Bighorn Research does not recommend that you purchase, avoid, sell, retain, repair, modify, or otherwise take a particular action regarding any vehicle.

Our research is intended to support your independent evaluation and decision-making, not replace it.

You remain solely responsible for decisions you make regarding the purchase, ownership, operation, maintenance, repair, modification, sale, or disposal of a vehicle.

3. No Guarantee of Vehicle Condition or Future Performance

Vehicle research cannot determine or guarantee the present mechanical condition, safety, reliability, remaining service life, future repair needs, or future performance of a specific vehicle.

Information regarding a vehicle platform, model, engine, transmission, component, model year, or configuration does not establish the condition or expected performance of an individual vehicle.

Even when research includes a VIN, vehicle-history information, maintenance records, photographs, inspection information, auction information, seller statements, or other individual-vehicle evidence, Bighorn Research cannot guarantee that:

  • All prior damage, repairs, modifications, maintenance, or events have been identified;
  • Available records are complete or accurate;
  • A vehicle has been properly maintained or repaired;
  • A vehicle is currently free of mechanical, structural, electrical, safety, or other defects; or
  • A vehicle will achieve any particular level of reliability, longevity, resale value, or ownership cost.

Past performance of a vehicle platform or individual vehicle does not guarantee future results.

4. Research Limitations and Changing Information

Bighorn Research seeks to provide accurate, useful, and appropriately sourced information. However, vehicle research inherently involves limitations.

Information may be incomplete, unavailable, inconsistent, incorrectly reported, subsequently revised, or subject to differing interpretations. New recalls, service campaigns, technical information, failure patterns, warranty extensions, regulatory actions, repair procedures, or other evidence may become available after research is completed.

Accordingly, Bighorn Research does not guarantee that any Ownership Profile or other research material:

  • Contains every piece of information relevant to a vehicle;
  • Identifies every possible defect, failure mode, ownership cost, or safety concern;
  • Remains current indefinitely;
  • Is free from errors or omissions; or
  • Will produce a particular purchasing or ownership outcome.

Research should be considered in light of the information available at the time it was prepared or last updated.

Where meaningful uncertainty or data limitations exist, Bighorn Research may identify those limitations rather than make unsupported conclusions.

5. No Substitute for Inspection or Professional Services

Bighorn Research is not a vehicle inspection service, repair facility, dealership, manufacturer, insurance provider, financial advisor, legal advisor, or other licensed professional service.

Our research is not a substitute for appropriate independent verification, which may include:

  • A pre-purchase vehicle inspection;
  • Mechanical or diagnostic inspection;
  • Diagnostic scanning;
  • Body, frame, or collision-repair inspection;
  • Review by a qualified automotive technician;
  • Manufacturer or dealership verification;
  • Recall and service-campaign verification;
  • Vehicle-history reports;
  • Title and registration verification; or
  • Other professional evaluation appropriate to the vehicle and circumstances.

Users should obtain professional assistance when appropriate before making significant purchasing, repair, safety, financial, or ownership decisions.

6. Recalls, Safety Information, and Manufacturer Actions

Information regarding recalls, service campaigns, warranty extensions, technical service bulletins, investigations, or similar actions may change over time.

Users are responsible for independently verifying the current recall and campaign status of a specific vehicle with the appropriate manufacturer, dealer, government agency, or other authoritative source.

Bighorn Research does not represent that the absence of an identified recall or campaign means that a vehicle is free from safety concerns or other defects.

7. Third-Party Information and Sources

Bighorn Research may rely on, analyze, reference, summarize, or link to information produced by third parties.

Third-party sources may include manufacturers, government agencies, vehicle-history providers, technical publications, auction services, dealerships, sellers, owners, forums, databases, and other sources.

Bighorn Research does not control third-party information and cannot guarantee its completeness, accuracy, continued availability, or reliability.

The inclusion or citation of a third-party source does not constitute endorsement of that source, company, product, service, or opinion.

Third-party websites and services are governed by their own terms and policies.

8. User-Submitted Information

Users may be permitted to provide vehicle information, VINs, listings, photographs, documents, maintenance records, seller statements, vehicle-history information, or other materials for use in Bighorn Research services.

You are responsible for ensuring that information you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to provide it.

You retain ownership of materials you submit.

By submitting information or materials to Bighorn Research, you grant Bighorn Research a non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, analyze, organize, and process those materials as reasonably necessary to provide the requested service, operate our business, and maintain appropriate business records.

You should not submit confidential, sensitive, or personally identifying information that is not reasonably necessary for the requested service.

9. Seller Claims and Other Unverified Information

Vehicle listings, seller statements, owner statements, advertisements, maintenance claims, modification claims, and similar information may be considered as part of Bighorn Research.

Unless independently supported by appropriate evidence, such statements should not be interpreted as verified facts merely because they appear in an Ownership Profile or other research material.

Bighorn Research may identify information as reported, claimed, unverified, uncertain, or otherwise limited when appropriate.

10. Ownership Profiles

An Ownership Profile represents research based on the vehicle information, evidence, sources, and other materials available at the time the Profile is prepared.

An Ownership Profile is not a certification, warranty, inspection, appraisal, guarantee, or prediction regarding a vehicle.

The scope and depth of available research may vary significantly between vehicles. Some vehicles may have extensive manufacturer documentation and historical evidence, while others may have limited or conflicting information.

The absence of evidence regarding a particular problem should not automatically be interpreted as evidence that the problem cannot occur.

11. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise indicated, original Bighorn Research website content, written analysis, Ownership Profiles, research organization, graphics, branding, logos, methodologies, rating systems, evidence frameworks, report structures, and other original materials are owned by or licensed to Bighorn Research and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

Bighorn Research materials are provided for personal, non-commercial use unless otherwise expressly authorized.

Without prior written permission from Bighorn Research, you may not:

  • Republish or commercially distribute Bighorn Research materials;

Nothing in these Terms restricts rights that cannot legally be restricted under applicable law.

You may not intentionally interfere with the website, attempt unauthorized access to systems or accounts, introduce malicious software, misuse website functionality, conduct automated extraction prohibited by these Terms, impersonate another person, or use Bighorn Research services in a manner that violates applicable law or the rights of others.

13. Availability and Changes to Services

Bighorn Research may modify, update, suspend, discontinue, or change portions of the website, Ownership Profiles, research methodology, features, or services at any time.

We do not guarantee that the website or any particular service will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or maintained in its current form.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Bighorn Research website, Ownership Profiles, research materials, and services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

Bighorn Research makes no warranty, express or implied, regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability, suitability, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or results of using the website, Ownership Profiles, or other research materials.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Bighorn Research and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of, or reliance upon, the website, Ownership Profiles, research materials, or services.

This includes, without limitation, losses arising from vehicle purchases or sales, repair costs, loss of use, diminished value, towing expenses, transportation costs, lost profits, missed opportunities, or decisions made based on information contained in Bighorn Research materials.

Bighorn Research does not assume responsibility for decisions made by users based on our research.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations of liability. In those jurisdictions, these limitations will apply only to the extent permitted by law.

16. No Endorsement or Affiliation

References to vehicle manufacturers, models, products, dealerships, service providers, government agencies, publications, databases, or other third parties are for identification, research, or informational purposes.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, Bighorn Research is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any vehicle manufacturer, dealership, government agency, or other third party referenced in our research.

All third-party trademarks and trade names remain the property of their respective owners.

17. Privacy

Your use of the Bighorn Research website and services is also subject to our Privacy Policy.

Please review the Bighorn Research Privacy Policy for information about how we collect, use, and protect personal information.

18. Changes to These Terms

Bighorn Research may update these Terms as our website, research products, services, or legal obligations change.

When changes are made, we will update the “Last Updated” date shown at the top of this page.

Your continued use of the website or services following an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.

19. Governing Law

These Terms and any dispute arising from or relating to the Bighorn Research website or services will be governed by applicable law.

A specific governing-law and jurisdiction provision may be added as Bighorn Research’s legal business structure and commercial services are finalized.
